The Maze Runner

Hey Bloggers, we had to choose a book or movie and then write a book review on it. We had to talk about why we liked it, what it was about, why others would like and a rating out of 5. I found it easy to write about the book though it was a bit hard to rate out of 5.

Have you ever read The Maze Runner? Are you going to read it now? If there is anything I can improve on please comment below.

Scandalous Snapper

Hey Bloggers something I made up a Super Villain in class. I decided to do it about a kid called Richard (pronounced Rich-AR-d) Smit. I found it fun and easy to come up with ideas, though it was a bit hard to fit all the writing on the slide. Have you ever made up a super hero or super villain? Did you enjoy it? If there is anything I can improve on please comment below! Bye Bloggers, Soph :)

Marvellous Maori Culture

Hey Bloggers, something else we have been learning about is some things in the maori culture. Some things we researched were Tā Moko, a maori tatttoing, Korowai, a maori cloak and Haka, a maori tribal dance. For each of these things we had to compare past and present. I found it a it hard to research the korowai, there wasn't that much information on them.

Have you ever worn a Korowai? I haven't, if you have what does it feel like to wear one? If there is anything i can do to improve the blog post please comment below.

Bye Bloggers Soph :)

Full of fun Ki o Rahi

Hey Bloggers another thing we researched was the game Ki o Rahi. We had to research the legend behind it and the basic game rules. We also got to play it, it was really fun! I found it a bit hard to fit all the writing on to the poster, sorry if you can't read it that well! It is a bit confusing that the legend dosen't have anything to do with the game. The version on this poster is shortened, if you want to read the whole story click here

Have you ever played Ki o Rahi? If I haven't explained the rules well enough please tell me! If there is anything I can improve on please comment below and tell me!

Past and Present

Hey Bloggers in class we have been researching things about NZ. This Blog post is about  the difference and changes in the Hāngī. I found it a bit difficult explaining the modern kind of Hāngī. I think it is quite interesting that people came up with somethings like this in the olden days. It was a lot more hard work to cook their Hāngī then cooking our food in the oven.

Have you ever had a Hāngī? I did but I can't really remember it. If there is anything I can do better please comment below.

Have you ever driven through Little Akaloa?

Decimals, Decimals, and more Decimals

Hey Bloggers in maths we have been going over decimal problems, including, multiplying, dividing, subtracting and adding fractions. I found it really easy to do these it didn't challenge me at all.

Do you find these questions easy?

Super Starria

Hey Bloggers in maths we have been learning about map coordinates and bearings. Then we had to come up with our own country and put some things on it. I really enjoyed making my country, I named it Starria because it is the shape of a star.

This it:

What would you name your country? If there is anything I can improve on please comment below.

Crazy Code

Hey Bloggers, in coding we have been making PSAs which stands for Public Service Announcement  on codesters, I choose to do one about littering because there is lots of littering all over. ounger children because it is quite bright. I made this for yHere is the code I used for my animation:

On the program we used we couldn't share the animation so here is a basic storyboard.

The bird runs into the piece of paper.
Then it flies into the coin

Then it tells the audience to please try not to litter

Thanks Bloggers!

Brilliant Basic Samoan Greetings

Hey Bloggers this Wednesday we learned some basic Samoan greetings. After that we had to make an animation or scratch containing a Samoan greeting with a translation. I chose to do a animation on slides. It was a bit difficult for me to make the text near the bottom of the slides easy to see, in the end I settled with a bright pink so it would be bright and easy to see.

Do you know any other basic greetings in another language?

If there is anything I can improve on please comment below!

Magic Square

Hey Bloggers, for maths we have been doing magic squares. The way to solve a magic square is to mae sure that there is the same number between all the different numbers, for example the numbers in the magic square are 3,5 and 7 there are 2 numbers between each one.

Magic Square

Are you good at magic squares?

Amazing Auroras!

Hey Bloggers for the last day of school we did an art piece on the Southern lights. The Southern lights are a natural phenomenon that lights up the night sky in different forms of reds, blues and greens. It is caused by solar winds that come from off the sun and nitrogen and oxygen atoms colliding, releasing amazing colours called Auroras. Here is my art piece

If you want to find out how I did this here are the instructions
For the art we had to rip a piece of paper so that it looked like a mountain range and stuck it on the bottom of a black piece of paper, then we put a bit of white paint on the end of a paint brush and and flicked the paint brush slightly, making stars in the night sky. Then we used chalk pastel and drew little lines of chalk in a pattern and brushed the chalk remains on to the black paper. We sprayed it with hair spray so that it stayed.

Do you like this kind of art? Have you ever seen a real life Aurora? Would you want to?

Awesome Art

Hey Bloggers in Inquiry we have been researching global issues and I decided to dive deeper in to gender inequality. Something that I found really unfair was that there are hardly any CEO girls in the world. So I decided to do my art piece about it.

I decided to do a collage because I love doing collages and also I thought I would look awesome. What's your favourite part of it?

Magic Matariki Puppet show

Hey Bloggers because Matariki is coming up my teachers decided that we had to create something that explains the Matariki story. In case you don't know what Matariki is, it's a constellation that marked the beginning of the Maori new year. So me and my friends decided to make a puppet show about it. We found it a bit hard to get proper camera angles, but in the end it worked out pretty good.

What is your favourite character in our puppet show? If there is anything I can do to improve please comment below!

Comedic Comic

Hey Bloggers, we are learning about irony! Did you know there are three kinds of irony verbal irony, situational irony and dramatic irony. Verbal irony is when someone says "We're having great weather!" when in reality it's pouring. Situational irony is when for example, someone go's to a football game decked out in red and shouts blue, blue. Dramatic irony is when a actor doesn't know what's happening but the audience does. We had to do a comic about irony.

What kind of ironic comic would you make?

Awesome ASCII

Hey Blpggers! Today we are learning about Binary and ASCII.

Binary is a number system that uses 1’s and 0’s to represent all of our normal set of numbers.  You can use the place values as multiples of 2 to work out how to do it for yourself!  Try watching this video to give it a go yourself!

ASCII is set of encoded symbols that a computer uses to turn Binary into letters and other symbols from the English language (like what is on our keyboard).  I turned my initials into binary numbers, and then turned those binary numbers into an ASCII code!  Using colours to represent the 1’s and 0’s, my initials in ASCII can be represented by the pattern you see in my image below!

This is the process I went through to figure it out:

What do you think?  Have you ever tried encoding anything in binary or ASCII?  Could you have a try for yourself?  Can you work out how to write my initials in ASCII from the pattern above?
