Travels within Candesia

Hey Bloggers, this week we have been studying Fantasy. We had to make a Pick a Path Fantasy story. My friend I did it together, we named it Travels within Candesia. I like reading Pick a Path stories, if you have read a Pick a Path story before did you enjoy it? I found it hard to finish it, it took ages to write everything. My friend and I tried to make it like a fantasy story! Do you enjoy the fantasy genre? We made it with only one right ending, so if you are going to do it be careful!

Do you watch many movies at home? What is your favourite type? Did you know that different types of movies are called genres? Can you tell me 2 Fantasy cliches? A cliche is something that happens in lots of fantasy movies, for example, The Prophecy is a common cliche within the fantasy genre. If there is anything I can do to improve my work, please comment below. Check out my Pick a Path below!

Surprisingly Scary

Hey Bloggers, how is lockdown going for you? In literacy, we have been studying different genres. When we have finished learning about all the genres we are going to make a movie! I'm really excited about that! Last year my friends and I did a western. The first genre we studied was horror, I don't love horror so I wasn't super pumped. We had to write a short horror story. I named mine Surprisingly Scary, it was a bit hard to come up with the title for my story. Do you ever find it hard to name your writing?

Do you like horror? I prefer other genres. Do you like writing stories? If you do, what kind of stories do you use? Do you like watching movies, what's your favourite kind? If there is anything I can improve on please comment below.

Wonderful Water Cycle

Hey Bloggers! How is lockdown treating you? For a Friday task, I had to make a diagram of the water cycle and where the water ends up.

This task relates to my class's inquiry on water; we have been researching and finding out about the water cycle and what impact water has on the environment. We even watched two shows about water! our inquiry is leading to making wearable art based on water. I did this diagram on Google Drawings, have you used Google Drawings before? If you have, do you enjoy using it or do you use something else instead of Google Drawings?

Have you ever seen a diagram of the water cycle before? If you have, did it look the same as mine? I found it difficult to fit in all the words and not make it seem crowded. Do you enjoy learning about this? I find it interesting the sun is so hot it turns water into steam. Did you know that water can be a liquid, a steam, and a solid? If there is anything I can improve on please comment below.

Amazing Aladdin

Hi Bloggers, This term we had our Aladdin production. I was one of Jasmine's handmaidens, my name was Rajah. We have been practising since week 3 of term 2. I am sad that it is over! It was a great experience!  Have you ever been in a production before? I have all the songs stuck in my head, it's annoying but slightly comforting at the same time. I had a pink costume, I didn't love that! Everyone who was in the production had to come to school with foundation and mascara.

We had to earn lots of dances and songs. There were two casts, Tahi and Rua, out of the four performances each cast had two in which they performed. If it wasn't your night to act then you were part of the choir. For the production we had a special stage, backdrop and lighting put in for the production. It was really cool!

What is your favourite picture? If you have been in a production did you enjoy it? Has your school done production before? If they have what kind of one did they do? Did lots of people come in to watch it? If there is anything I can improve on please comment below

Majestic Matariki Art

Hey Bloggers, in school we have been doing foam printing of the Matariki cluster; the Seven Sisters. Matariki is a star cluster that comes out at the start of July. Matariki is the start of the Maori New Year and symbolizes new life. These prints have a mountain range down the bottom and Matariki at the top. The mountain range represents Mt Cook.  I tried to make my mountains weren't super pointy. We had to print and frame it ourselves.

The Steps:

First, we had to draw a draft on a piece of paper. We had to draw it on reversed because the picture flips when you print it.

Second, you had to draw your design with a pen onto your piece of foam. You had to make sure you didn't dent your paper, if you did then it would show up in your print.

Third, you have to choose what colour ink you wanted and if you wanted to fade it or not. You roll a paint roller over some ink to get it covered in paint Then you roll it over your foam.

Forth, when your foam is covered in paint you put a piece of white paper over top and apply pressure with a dry paint roller. After you have done this you can take off the paper. You should now have a piece of art that resembles the Matariki star cluster.

If you want to you can clean and dry your piece of foam and do it again.

I did four pieces of art. I decided that my fourth one was the best-looking one so I framed that one. To make the frame you had to cut a rectangle into a piece of A3-sized paper. Then you stuck it on top of your artwork. We had to make sure that the bottom piece of art wasn't hanging out of the frame.

Next time I think I would apply more pressure when drawing my design onto the foam. I would also put more paint on so that I wouldn't get white dots. Have you ever foam printed before? If you have, did you enjoy it? I enjoyed doing this. What colours would you choose? If there is anything I can improve on please comment below.

Excellent Egg Drop

Hey Bloggers on Wednesday we learned about STEAM.  STEAM is all about science and teamwork. In the video below you can learn all about it.

We had to drop an egg from a height without it breaking. The teachers gave us some materials and we had to protect the egg with those. After we did this we had to fill out some slides about the outcome of our egg and how well we did as a team.

Have you ever learned about STEAM before? If you have, did you like learning about it? Have you ever done an egg drop challenge? If you have, what materials have you used? If there is anything I can improve on please comment below and tell me.

Mysterious Miss Serum

Hey, Bloggers how were your holidays, tell me what you did in the comments. I had heaps of fun! In Literacy, we had to make the person sitting next to us a supervillain. My friend Sophie was sitting next to me; I turned her into Miss Serum. I really enjoyed creating this villain. It was fun to think about what my friend is like and then making her a villain. Sophie is really smart and is great at maths so I thought I would make her an evil scientist.

Her Backstory: When she was a young scientist everyone thought her creations were too dark and that she was ‘straying from the path’. After two years of this Sophie had had enough; she would start her quest to rule the world

Have you ever turned your friend into a villain? If you haven't you should! It's lots of fun! Do you watch many superhero movies? If you do, do you enjoy them? Do you think my villain sounds like a villain? If there is anything I can improve on please comment below and tell me.

Perfect Pixel Art

Hey Bloggers, this term my school is learning the production, Aladdin Junior. While we aren't practising we have some activities we need to complete. One activity was to make pixel art of our favourite character. I didn't know what character was my favourite so I chose Princess Jasmine. I haven't done pixel art before; this is my first time so it took me a while.

Who is your favourite Aladdin character? Have you ever done pixel art? If you have do you enjoy it? I think it's quite fun. Do you think I used the right colours for Princess Jasmine? It was a bit hard to choose the right colours. If there is anything I can improve on please comment below (I found it a bit hard to come up with a title so please let me know if you have any ideas).

Magnificent Matariki

Hey Bloggers we have been researching the Matariki story in class. We had to write a story or make a video about the Matariki story. I decided to make a puppet show. Sorry if you can't hear it that well; it was hard to get good quality sound because it was windy.

Have you ever written or filmed a recap of the Matariki story? If you haven't you should! It's lots of fun! Have you ever heard the Matariki story before? Have you ever seen Matariki in the morning? I haven't seen Matariki before. Please comment below on how I can improve.

Happy Hundertwasser

Hey Bloggers have you ever heard of Friedenseich Hundertwasser? He was a famous artist who lived from 1928 - 2000. He had a really cool art style; he only used curved lines. Some of the features used were

  • Lollipop trees
  • Onion domes
  • Houses in row
  • Lines of motion
  • Layering
  • Hidden faces
  • Floating eyes
The art on the right is an example of his art.

We had to look at the colour wheel and decide what colours to use. There are complimentary colours, these colours are across the colour wheel from each other. You could also use analogous colours which are next to each other on the colour wheel

I decided to do a reflection for my art - I thought it would look quite cool. It took me a while to choose my colours, I wanted to all tie in nicely. I tried to use as few colours as possible. I really like doing onion domes so I used quite a lot of these in my artwork. My hidden face is quite hidden! The two lollipop trees are the eyes and the floating eye is the nose - I think it looks a bit like an owl face.

Have you ever done art like this? I haven't, I think it is quite creative and fun! Do you like doing art? I am not that good at it so I don't enjoy it that much but this was fun! Have you used pastels before? If you have do you like using them? I find it a bit tricky but this artwork turned out alright. If there is anything I can improve on please comment below.

What's the Weather in Te Reo Maori

Hey Bloggers, lately in Maori we have been learning about the weather and how to ask what the weather is in Maori. We had to make a poster that taught people how to ask what the weather is and then make a Scratch animation.

I think the poster would have turned out better if there hadn't been as many words or if there had been more space. I found it a bit tricky on scratch, I am not much of a coder. I found it a bit hard to get them to move and to make be at the right spot on the screen.

Have you ever learnt about the weather in Maori at school? If you have did you enjoy it? Can you speak much Maori? I cannot speak that much Maori. Do you do much Maori at school? We do an average amount. If there is anything that I can improve on please comment below.

Te Tiriti o Waitangi: A History

Hey Bloggers, this week we are just finishing off our study of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Today we had to make a timeline of important key events that happened concerning the treaty, what lead up to it and what followed. Sorry if you don't understand what is happening, I was trying to fit it all in. In case you don't understand what is happening throughout the time line here is some quick bullet points that sum up what I was trying to say.

  • Māori were living in Aotearoa to themselves

  • All of land and natural resources belonged to Māori

  • 1769 Captain Cook arrived in NZ

  • 1790 pāheka came to hunt seals and whales, cut trees and flax to sell elsewhere. Pakeha Missionaries spread Christianity across NZ

  • By 183o several hundred Pakeha came to live in what they called NZ

  • 1831 - chiefs wrote to King of England and asking for protection from the French

  • 28 October 1835 james Busby presented document to chiefs at Waitangi - the Declaration of Independence

  • By 1840 52 chiefs had signed declaration of independence

  • Late January, 1840 William Hobson arrived in Bay of Islands

  • 6 Feb 1840 some chiefs ready to Sign Treaty

  • Over the next 7 months, in 1840, over 700 chiefs ‘signed’ the Treaty of Waitangi

  • Māori and British fought the NZ land wars 1845-1872

  • 1865 Māori lost land through the Native Court System

  • 1906 James Carroll native Minister said time to help Māori who have lost land due to British people’s actions

  • 1975 Waitangi Tribunal set up to sort out disputes

  • 1985 rules changes so that historic claims could be fought (land that was taken way back in the past!)

Do you know much about this time line? If there is anything that I can improve about the time line please tell me! Do you think that the government did the right thing opening the tribunal? I think it was a pretty good idea, it is good that they want to fox the wrongs that happened. Please comment below if there is anything that I can improve on.

K.O.S Comic

Hey Bloggers, today we continued to learn about K.O.S (Keeping Ourselves Safe). I have done a blog post about this already in case you were wondering. Today we were learning about being responsible for others safety. This included their emotional and physical safety and that lots of people experience being emotionally unsafe. We had to finish the comic below, we had to fill in the last square with how we think the best way to react to this would be.

It start with the scene of a party. The next scene shows us to friends, we had to put ourselves in the mindset of being the blond girl. The next panel shows to other girls coming over and talking to the blonde and excluding the black haired girl while they are talking to her. It then shows us a picture of the black haired girl looking sad because she is being left out. Then the two girls try to pull the blonde away from her friend, she looks like she is worried about her friend.

I chose to draw the blonde girl coming back for her friend and taking her with the other two girls. I chose to do this because I think it is the best way to include everyone.

What would you chose to draw in the last panel? Do you agree with me or do you think that there is a better course of action? Are you good at drawing? I'm average. Do you think I could have done better colours? I think I could have done better colours. Do you colour things in much at home? Please comment below if there is anything I can improve!

A Side to Every Story

Hey Bloggers, in class we have been studying the Treaty of Waitangi. Lately we have been focusing more on what the Maori and the white people would have been feeling and experiencing during the treaty signing and the wars. After we researched this we had to make a Voki about how someone would feeling during these times.

I found it a bit difficult to choose a good voice and person. There wasn't really any proper Maori outfits to use.In the end I used an Indian voice, it doesn't really sound Maori but it works. The skin colour was a bit difficult to get right, I don't know if it's correct but I tried my best. In the end I filmed it on my phone because that was the easiest way to download it.

I tried really hard to get the video on blogger but it just wouldn't work. To watch the video click here for the link.

Who do you think you would write about, the Maori or the white people? What do you think these people would be feeling? If you were in there position what would you be feeling? Have you used Voki before? if you have did you enjoy using it? Do you use Voki much, if you use it at all.

Terrific Tāmoko

Hey Bloggers, we have been learning about Tāmoko in our class. I found it really interesting the culture behind the Tāmoko, there is a lot of history involved with it! We had to make a poster with some facts and pictures. I found it a bit tricky to make the poster look good, I had to retry a couple of things.

When I make posters I always find it a bit tricky to make the text the right size but it turned out alright in the end. I tried to get drawn pictures of the Tāmoko so that it matched the poster. I think it turned out pretty nice with the drawn pictures.

Have you ever learned about Tāmoko in your class? Have you ever seen anyone in real life with one? Did you know what it was called before you read this blog post? Do any of your family members have a Tāmoko? If there is anything I can improve please comment below.

Tricky Trip

Hey Bloggers, in class we are learning about the voyage by boat that the pioneers took to get to Aotearoa, what happened when they got to Aotearoa and what history making moments accrued because of the pioneers finding a new home in Aotearoa.

We had to make a poster about this with a map what way the boat went to get to Aotearoa. It was a bit difficult to make the map on google draw because the mouse is a bit funny with the tool that you use. It was partly difficult to make but it would out in the end.

Have ever learned about this? If you have did you find it interesting? I find it intriguing what happened and how it is still effecting us today. Have you ever heard a story similar to the boat ride to Aotearoa? I have. If there is anything I can improve on please comment below!

Super Super Safety

Hey Bloggers, in my class we did K.O.S, after we had to make a poster about the scenario that we learned about in class. I found it a bit hard to choose the size of the font, because it if I make it too big it would look cramped, but if I made it not cramped then it is harder to read.

Has anything like this ever happened to you? It has never happened to me before. What do you think the safest option is? I choose number one because it would scare away the man. If there is anything I can improve on please comment below.

Creative Canva Pepeha

Hey Bloggers, after we had done our Adobe Spark Pepeha video we had to do a canva poster of our Pepeha. I found it a bit tricky to find a canva poster that would fit my Pepeha, but in the end I found one that fit. It is a bit squished up but in the end it turned out all right.

I decided to not add any pictures because, one, it wouldn't really fit and two, it would mess with the colour scheme. Do you think I should have added pictures? Or do you think it would have messed up the colour scheme?

Does your class use canva much? Mine does. How long is your Pepeha? Mine is not that long as other people.  Can you speak another language other than maori and English? I can speak some french. If there is anything I can improve on please comment below.

Bye Bloggers, Soph :)

Everything, Ever about me!!!!

Hey Bloggers, we had to make a canva video all about ourselves. In my video I put some of my favourite things to do and some fun facts about myself. Do you have any pets? I live on a beef farm, so we have quite a few cows!

The video was originally pink but I changed it to blue it was a bit hard to get different shades of blue, but I searched up the colour blue then used colour picker to get the shade I wanted. The teachers wanted us to use canva so that we used a variety of appliances in our school work. Do you use canva much?

The teachers wanted the video to be under twenty seconds. How long do you think is a good amount of time? What is a fun fact about yourself? Have your teachers ever asked you to do something like this? What is a hobby that you have? Do you have a lot of hobbies? My friend Olivia does! If there is anything I can improve on please comment below!

Perfect Pepeha

Hey Bloggers, this year we had to make an Adobe Spark about our Pepeha. We has to have photos for it as well, we were allowed to use our phones to get some photos. Before we put our Pepeha on Adobe Spark we had to write it first. It is a bit confusing writing about siblings in maori, because it is very precise.

In case you don't know Maori this is the translation: Hello. My Mountain is Mt Cook. My River is the Styx. My iwi is New Zealand. My ancestors are from the UK. My Father is Fergus. My Mother is Amy. My younger sisters are Charlotte and Eva. My younger brothers are Oli and Theo. My name is Sophia. I am from Christchurch. Goodbye.

How many siblings do you have? I have four. Do you know your Pepeha off by heart? I'm working on mine. Where are you from? Are you from a different country? Do you have an iwi? I don't. If there is anything I can improve on please comment below.

Dramatic Drawing

Hey Bloggers, are you good at building Lego? I could use a bit of improvement!  For our self portrait this year the teachers got us to do Lego portraits. I found it a bit hard to draw myself as a Lego person!!

The process we went through was like this: first you did the hair, you had to make it more streamlined then normal hair. I choose to do a cap with my hair coming out the back, I think that I could have improved the hair a bit more.

Second you drew the face, you had to choose a Lego person face that you liked then try draw it on paper. I decided to do a basic smiley face because this seemed more suited to me.  I could have made the eyes on my person a bit more round then they were.

Third I did the outfit, we tried to do something we wore often. I choose to do denim dungarees because I wear these quite a lot, I could have done the buttons a lot better. I did a green T-shirt with polka dots on because I thought it would match the colour scheme, looking back I probably should have done a different colour. I did black shoes to match the colour scheme.

How much Lego do you have at home? I have quite a lot because I have a large family. Do play with Lego much? I don't play with it heaps, but sometimes I do. What facial expression would you do? Would you have difficulty choosing a face, or would you know straight away?  Have you ever done a Lego person before? If you have, did you like the outcome?

If there is anything I can do better please comment below and tell how to improve. Bye Bloggers, Soph :)

Cool Camp Memories

Hey Bloggers!! How was your Holidays? I had lots of fun times! I just got back from Wainui YMCA camp, it was so much fun! Have you ever been to Wainui? We had to make a DLO about our favourite memory from camp, I did mine on Adobe Spark because I have used this program before and know how to navigate it. The thing I found hard was picking the music, I got there in the end though!

What is your favourite camp memory ever? Have you been to many camps before? If there is anything I can improve on!
